“I am the fifth generation in my family to own a farmhouse built in 1840, so I spent a lot of time searching for the right contractor to make extensive renovations. It was crucial to have a contractor we could trust because we lived 200 miles from the renovation site. After another contractor wouldn’t return my calls, I contacted David McCay and he called me back the same day. Following several conversations to determine exactly what we were hoping to accomplish and multiple visits to inspect various parts of the house, we determined that most of the house could be brought up to modern standards, but that a section in the rear had too many structural problems and should be torn down and replaced.
David put us in contact with an architectural designer to develop a floorplan for the new construction and overall exterior design that would make the new construction look like it was original to the 180-year-old house. Once construction began, David was in frequent contact keeping me updated on progress and scheduling, and he would always return texts and phone calls very promptly. He took lots of pictures to show us what was going on, which was very valuable to us since we could not visit the job site frequently. Two of David’s strengths are scheduling and having excellent subcontractors, which resulted in steady progress and a high-quality end product, and he was on top of things at every step along the way. The people who worked directly for David (not subcontractors) were also extremely good.
Throughout the process, I put a lot of faith in David, and he never let me down. He contributed significantly to the many structural, layout, and small cosmetic details resulting in a beautiful, solid, and comfortable home. Although part of the house is new construction and part is quite old, the entire structure blends so well that it looks like it was all built at the same time. I told him at the beginning that I wanted the finished house to be able to stand for another 200 years, and I believe he delivered that. I recommend David McCay Builders without reservation.”
